Blake was born with Angelman syndrome at a very young age. It is a complex genetic disorder that mostly effects the nervous system. This delays his development, movement, balance, and speech. With all of these challenges and difficulties, Blake always has a smile on his face that lights up the room. Many of the doctors thought that he wouldn't be able to walk or would only be able to walk with a walker. Blake's strength proved everyone wrong and is now able to walk without anything. With Blake not being able to talk he has found ways to communicate with us through feelings, emotions and showing us what he wants. Blake is a very social person, he always wants to show love to anyone especially the ones that need it. He may not have the skills that most 19 year olds in society has but he has skills and lessons many people lack. He shows people to laugh and be happy no matter what, accept everyone, spread happiness, and to love freely. That is what we need most in our world right now.
Wow...Mae this is the most amazing tribute to your brother and I can’t express how proud we are to have a daughter with so much compassion and empathy towards others. So often, in families with a special needs child, siblings may grow up to resent the time that is not given to them as much of our time as parents is spent with our child with special needs. At 19, Blake still needs help with all daily living,dressing ,eating, bathing etc. He will never be independent. I know how hard it has been growing up being the younger sister to Blake but yet always being needed to take the role of a older sibling and assist with Blake. Yo…
